About Brain Explained

My name is Snehi, and I am a Junior in High School, living in New Jersey.

As a kid, my favorite TV show was Phineas and Ferb, especially the episode where Perry the Platypus started to control Dr. Doofeshmirtz. Besides the comedic lyrics of the song in the episode, I was intrigued at the ability of mind-controlling, but more importantly, what the mind could do in real life. That transitioned into hours spent on YouTube watching videos on neuroscience where I learned about cognitive disorders. I was fascinated. There was no real-life villain that could control your brain, but there were tiny cells in our brains that could. I wanted to discover the biology of what caused this “mind-controlling” effect in our brains.

But as I grew up and developed a passion for neuroscience, I realized that most students in my grade disliked science classes. They also expressed that STEM was too hard or boring. The information that we were taught was more complex than a lot of students were used to, and there was a test-focused atmosphere instead of teaching for the joy of learning. I realized that this would stop many students from possibly pursuing science and specializing in a field like neuroscience in the future.

Therefore, I created Brain Explained to create monthly, informative videos explaining neuroscience, neurological diseases, and recent contributions to the field in an accessible way. Younger students will gain knowledge in a fun and informative way and get exposure to what is really happening in the field of neuroscience. By providing information about the biology of neuroscience contributions and disorders in an accessible and understandable way, I hope to make it more enjoyable and pave the way for more informed and passionate students.
